COVID-19: Status of municipal sites and services

General guidelines in force
- People ages 10 and older are required to wear a face covering in closed or partially open public spaces.
- A curfew is in force from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Sports and outdoor recreational facilities
Guidelines apply to the practice of indoor and outdoor activities.
Recreational skating is permitted. A face covering must be worn at all times in indoor rinks.
It can be practiced:
- By people living at the same address.
- Individually or with another person, on the condition that you observe a physical distance of at least two metres.
Lane swims and open swims are permitted.
They can be practiced:
- By people living at the same address.
- Individually or with another person, on the condition that you observe a physical distance of at least two metres.
Gymnasiums are closed.
The practice of badminton and tennis is permitted. Wearing a face covering is mandatory at all times.
They can be practiced:
- By people living at the same address.
- With another person, on the condition that you observe a physical distance of at least two metres.
Indoor skateparks are closed.
Recreational practice is permitted.
It can be practiced:
- By people living at the same address.
- Solo, with one other person or in a group of no more than eight people, as long as all parties remain two metres away from one another.
If the members of a group of more than two people are not from the same family bubble, each member must wear a face covering at all times.
Racquet sports and recreational activities are permitted.
It can be practiced:
- By people living at the same address.
- Solo, with one other person or in a group of no more than eight people, as long as all parties remain two metres away from one another.

Only skills practice is permitted for team sports, unless the activity is limited to the same family bubble.
Except for swimming pools, changing rooms are not accessible.
Spectators are not allowed. One person who is there to accompany another may be allowed if necessary (a guide for someone with a handicap, for example, or the parent of a child under 10). This person must be counted as part of the maximum allowable number of people per group.
Restricted capacity applied to all authorized activities.
Several activities require a reservation. Contact your borough for further details.
Supervised sporting activities
- Indoors: Individual lessons or training and supervised lessons or training offered to a family bubble are permitted. Wearing a face covering is mandatory at all times when practicing recreational skating, badminton and tennis.
- Outdoors: Individual lessons or training, and training or lessons offered to a family bubble or a group of eight people or less are permitted. If the members of a group of more than two people are not from the same family bubble, each member must wear a face covering at all times.
No league, tournament or competition activities are permitted.
High-performance training and sports
The following activities are permitted indoors and outdoors:
- All school-related activities (elementary and secondary) are permitted, provided that they are restricted to a stable class-group.
- Training activities held as part of a college- or university-level program.
- Certain professional sports or high-performance sports activities.
Cultural venues
Libraries are open. Users can access shelves. Individual seated spaces and computer equipment are available to users.
Document returns and remote services continue.
Only exhibition halls in maisons de la culture and cultural centres are open to the public.
Other venues, such as performance halls, are open only for filming purposes, show rehearsals, training activities, and creative residencies.
The Biodôme, the Jardin botanique and the Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan are open. The Musée de Lachine will reopen on May 5.
Municipal services
The Bureau des réclamations service counter is closed until further notice. Only claims submitted by e-mail to [email protected] will be reviewed.
All Accès Montréal offices are open to the public.
Permit counters are open. Only construction and renovation permits are currently being issued. Some permit counters operate by appointment only.
All judicial activities at the municipal court are maintained, including evening activities. Some service counters at the municipal court remain closed until further notice. Find out more

Deadlines extended
- The 2021 municipal property tax instalments have been delayed. The first instalment is now due on June 1 and the second instalment is due on September 1. The annual tax accounts for the year 2021 will be sent out at the end of February.
- The 2021 SDC dues instalments have been delayed. The first instalment is now due on June 1 and the second instalment is due on September 1. The dues for the year 2021 will be sent out at the end of February.
- The annual increase in parking fees has been suspended.
Support for businesses
The city offers a series of programs and measures geared to merchants, private businesses and collective enterprises, and support organizations.
Street parking
Parking lots with payment terminals or parking meters are free of charge every day from 7:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Through September 5, you can park free of charge in Ville-Marie street parking spaces that are usually metered:
- All day long on Saturdays and Sundays
- After 6 p.m. on Fridays.
