Winter is coming, and this season may well be another unusual one. A great way to keep your spirits up when the skies are grey is to get out and enjoy some outdoor activities. From tobogganing to skating, cross-country skiing to snowshoeing, here are some suggestions to make the most of winter.

Near your home

Looking for a winter outing that is out of the ordinary? Leave your everyday life behind and enjoy the great outdoors just a few steps from home. Get out your sleds, snow racers, snowshoes, skis and skates, and head to your local parks.

Before going out, check the condition of the skating rinks, cross-country ski trails and toboggan runs near you.

Explore the great outdoors

Want to discover a new place or relive childhood memories for an afternoon? A wide range of outdoor activities await you in popular green spaces such as Maisonneuve, parc Frédéric-Back and parc du Mont-Royal, which are now blanketed in white.

Immerse yourself in the great outdoors without leaving the city, by visiting Montréal’s nature parks. These larger and wilder spaces are known for their enchanting scenery. Hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing along the trails in these parks is a wonderful way to relax while getting some exercise. If fat biking is more your speed, check out the trails at parc Anse-à-l’Orme, parc Cap-Saint-Jacques and parc Pointe-aux-Prairies.

Au parc Jean-Drapeau

Parc Jean-Drapeau offers several free activities. In addition to tobogganing and other sledding fun, fat-bike trails, a climbing wall made of ice, and walking and cross-country skiing trails, the Parc inaugurates this winter a large skate trail of 500 meters.

At the Botanical Garden

The outdoor gardens are accessible free of charge. Take advantage of the many trails available for walking and cross-country skiing.

Renting and borrowing equipment

Nature parks

Cross-country skis, snowshoes, sleds, toboggans and ice cleats are available for rent at most nature parks.

Parks

Parc du Mont-Royal offers many rental equipments such as skates, cross-country skis, snowshoes, inner tubes and magic carpet. Consult the schedules and rates.

Parc Frédéric-Back offers loans of snowshoes, cross-country skis and kites to the general public on Saturdays and Sundays.
