Aux deux hémisphères

Aux deux hémisphères is an original, accessible cello-piano concert that first explores the most beautiful pieces of post-romantic and Argentine tango music.

Aux deux hémisphères is an original, accessible concert featuring cellist and composer Dominique Beauséjour-Ostiguy (recipient of the Prix d’Europe 2018) with pianist Jean-Michel Dubé (grand prize winner of the Canadian Music Competition’s 2017 international springboard). The recital features friendly commentary and truly allows the audience to enter Dominique’s creative process, exploring how his inspirations (both hemispheres) are reflected in his most recent compositions for cello and piano. The program begins by plunging us into the passionate, tormented lyricism of European composers of the post-romantic period, such as Rachmaninov and Fauré. The musical journey continues in South America with Argentine composer Piazzolla, whose music is more folkloric this time, but just as visceral, emphasizing the power of rhythm. Finally, we return to Quebec with Dominique’s compositions inspired by the two hemispheres. These accessible works are highly charged with emotion, and offer many contrasts between lyricism, virtuosity and rhythmic intensity.

Cello: Dominique Beauséjour-Ostiguy
