Ahuntsic-Cartierville, in collaboration with the Ville en vert organization, would like to encourage the use of washable diapers in order to reduce the quantity of landfilled waste by offering subsidies.

Eligible products:

  • New or used cloth diapers for babies
  • Washable inserts for cloth diapers
  • Twelve-month diaper rental service (or three-month rentals, if combined with the purchase of washable diapers) 
  • Training pants

Grant

  • 50 per cent of the costs related to renting or buying new or used cloth diapers
  • A maximum of $150 is available per person

The amount of the refund is based on the price of the purchases before taxes.

More support is available for low-income families. See the low income cut-offs on the Statistics Canada website.

Who is eligible for a grant

Borough residents:

  • Who commit to using cloth diapers
  • Who purchase the diapers for a minimum amount of $30 before taxes
  • Who do business with a diaper rental service for all of 2024 
  • Who use a cloth diaper rental service for a period of three months and then buy diapers for the same child between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.

When to apply

Until December 31, 2024 or while funds last.

  • Registration form (in French) and service contract, filled out and signed
  • Two proofs of borough residence that are less than two months old
  • If the application is made for a child, the following proofs of birth:
    • copy of birth certificate
    • copy of health insurance card
  • Invoice(s):
    • for the purchase of cloth diapers or
    • for 12 months’ use of a complete cloth diaper rental service or
    • for minimum period of three complete months of washable diaper rental service if combined with the purchase of washable diapers

To benefit from social pricing, the Revenu Québec notice of assessment will also be required.

Low-income families (borough residents who have a net family income fo $51,340 or less) can obtain a set of 20 diapers free of charge directly from the Éco-quartiers.

  • who agree to use the cloth diapers for which financial assistance is granted as long as their child needs them

  • who purchase at least 20 new or used cloth diapers

  •  who purchase the materials needed to make at least 20 diapers (various fabrics, elastics, thread, etc.), or

  •  who sign a contract to rent cloth diapers for a period of at least 12 months

Grant

  • Application forms available from July 5 at 1 p.m.
  • Washable diapers for babies – 40 subsidies of $200 per baby available 
  • Subsidies are set, and 50 per cent of the total amount will be reserved for low-income earners, having had an income equal to or less than, for the previous year, $27,514 for a one-person household, $34,254 for a two-person household, $42,117 for a three-person household and $51,128 for a four-person household.
  • Subsidies can be used to rent or purchase washable diapers. 
  • Only one subsidy per baby.

 

Eligible for a grant

  • Reside on the Plateau-Mont-Royal
  • Have a baby that is 12 months old or more (provide proof of your baby’s birthday).
  • Complete the subsidy form (in French) and send it with all required documents.
  • Commit to using washable diapers for the entire period during which the baby is in diapers. 
  • Ensure that, if they are still in good condition after being used, another child can use them.

Required documents

  • Proof of residence that shows your address in Le Plateau-Mont-Royal. 
  • Cumulative proof of purchase or rental (online, in a store or secondhand) for a total of at least $200, taxes included, over the past 12 months.
  • Cheque specimen to receive the grant.
  • If applicable, proof of low income (notice of assessment from the previous year, or three social assistance or employment insurance pay stubs.

Grant

  • 50% of the cost of purchase, up to a maximum of $150 per child
  • 25% bonus rebate for low-income earners  
  • 10% bonus rebate on products purchased from a Montréal-based retailer 

Limit one subsidy per child.

You may group several purchases together in a single subsidy application.  

Only purchases in Canadian dollars made in the 6 months preceding the date of application are eligible.  

Shipping and customs fees are not refundable. 

When a discount has been applied to the total amount of a bill, without clear indication of which specific products were on sale, the discount is applied by the merchant proportionally to the original price of each product. The refundable amount to be paid under the program will be calculated from the discounted price of each eligible product.

Grants will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, while funds last.

Who is eligible for a grant

Borough residents who are the parents of a child up to 14 months old who purchase eligible products and agree to use them. 

A follow-up questionnaire about product use will be sent to program participants.

Regular program

A maximum refund of 66 per cent of the products’ purchase price, up to a maximum of $100, is available.

Social pricing

A maximum refund of 100 per cent of the products’ purchase price, up to a maximum of $150, is available for low-income households. To determine accessibility for this reimbursement, the borough uses the thresholds under the Accès-Loisirs program.

Subsidies will be offered in the order in which applications are received until funds are exhausted.

Eligibility criteria

  • Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve residents
  • Parents of children under 36 months of age (at the time of application)
  • Commit to using reusable diapers/training pants until children are toilet trained

  • Proof of residence in the borough among the following:

Social pricing

For low-income households, an additional subsidy is provided: a set of 20 new cloth diapers is given (for free). To obtain the subsidy, low-income households must make an appointment with the Coop de solidarité Éconord to complete an application in person and pick up their diapers. Do not complete this form. No proof of purchase will be required. Other supporting documents will be requested (recent proof of residence, proof of birth of child, proof of identity of parents, recent proof of low income).

Who is eligible for a grant?

Eligibility criteria:

  • Be a resident of Montreal-Nord;
  • Send the duly completed grant application form and the following required documents before December 31, 2023, or until funds are exhausted;
  • Commit to using cloth diapers purchased with the grant for their service life or until the child does not need diapers anymore;
  • Have purchased the products between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023;
  • Submit only one application per eligible child;
  • Be a parent of a child under 24 months of age.

  • A proof of residence (electricity, tax, telephone or similar bill)
  • Original invoice for the purchase or rental of diapers (the diapers must have been purchased between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023)

Only one subsidy per address per year is available. If you have several purchases planned during the year, plan them in advance so that you can combine your invoices to complete your annual application.

  • who are the parents of a child up to 12 months
  • who agree to use cloth diapers for the entire period of time that the child will be in diapers
  • who purchase a minimum of 20 new or second-hand cloth diapers or deals with a cloth diaper rental service for a minimum period of 12 months
  • who purchased the diapers between January 1, 2024 and November 30, 2024

Applications must be received by November 30, 2024.

Until the funds allocated to the program are exhausted.

  • A specimen cheque or bank details for reimbursement
  • Copy of the bill for 20 (minimum) new washable diapers or all bills for a minimum period of 12 months for washable diapers.
  • Picture of the Kijiji or Marketplace ad for secondhand diapers and the payment transaction.
  • Proof of child’s birth, either:
    • A birth certificate, or
    • A confirmation of the registration of birth in the register of civil status, or
    • A copy of the Québec health insurance card
  • To benefit from the additional subsidy for products made in Quebec, proof is required.
  • In order to benefit from social pricing, a copy of the Revenu Québec most recent notice of assessment for each person in the household will be required.

All documents and invoices must be in the name and address of the person requesting the grant.
