Get an annual permit to use pesticides commercially

Last updated January 16, 2023

Does your business use pesticides outside of buildings? You will need a permit, and there are certain requirements you must meet. Find out more here.

The annual permit is required for all commercial users, such as farm and golf course operators, exterminators, landscapers, tree nursery producers and ornamental horticulture or lawn maintenance workers.

Many pesticides are prohibited in Montréal. See a full list.

When you get your annual permit, you will be added to the current list of commercial pesticide applicators (in French).

Fees

The permit costs $205 a year.

You must have your permit with you when you use pesticides.

Required documents

  1. Download, complete and sign the form.
  2. Provide a digital copy of the following documents issued by the Ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques:
  • Provincial permit to purchase and use pesticides
  • Provincial pesticide applicator certificates for all employees

Pesticide use log book

You must keep a log book and update it each time you use pesticides outside of buildings. This log book must be sent by email to the city at the end of each year, no later than January 31 of the following year. Each use of pesticides must be recorded in the log book, and the city may ask to see it at any time. Your permit could be revoked under certain conditions (such as a history of non-compliance or types of violations). The city can prohibit repeat offenders from practicing their activities in Montréal.
