On April 28, 2020, the borough received LEED certification for Doug Harvey Arena. A plaque to that effect will be installed inside the building.
Located in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Doug Harvey Arena has been open since 1970. The work carried out at the arena in recent years included all the improvements needed to earn LEED certification.
LEED certification is granted by the Canada Green Building Council based on an assessment framework. This certification promotes energy efficiency to reduce the environmental footprints of new or renovated buildings.
In the borough, the Centre sportif NDG has LEED Gold certification and the Centre culturel de Notre-Dame-de-Grâce has LEED Silver certification. Reducing buildings’ environmental footprints is part of the borough’s continuing effort to take action to protect the environment.
Historical note: Doug Harvey was a professional hockey player born in Montréal, who played for the Montréal Canadiens for part of his career.
