Helicopter flight in the Grand parc de l'Ouest: White-tailed Deer Inventory
The borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro informs you that a low-level helicopter flight will take place from February 15 to 28, 2023, near the Grand parc de l’Ouest, in order to conduct an inventory of white-tailed deer on the territory of Montreal.
At the request of Transport Canada, the City of Montreal’s Service des grands parcs, du Mont-Royal et des sports, the Grand parc de l’Ouest sector should be flown around February 21 (tentative date), on a day when the weather conditions are favourable. It includes the sectors of Bois-de-l’Île-Bizard, Cap-Saint-Jacques, Anse-à-l’Orme and the Bois-de-la-Roche agricultural park. It also includes the territories of the Île-Bizard humanized landscape, the Morgan arboretum and Angell Woods.
The inventory will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., on weekdays, and will serve to establish a portrait of the deer population and precisely identify their habitats. This project is a collaboration with the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP). The Ministry is responsible for the planning and execution of the inventory (deer count) and is responsible for obtaining all the necessary authorizations from Transport Canada to carry out this operation on Montreal territory.
