Renovation and expansion project
The renovation and expansion of L’Octogone library, which began in spring 2021, demonstrates the best practices in today’s libraries, integrating trends in innovation, architecture and design into every aspect of the project. The library, whose bold new look is the result of a multidisciplinary architectural competition won by the Anne Carrier architecture / Labonté Marcil consortium, provides LaSalle residents with bright, attractive new spaces.
In addition to an extensive collection of library materials, including the largest collection of graphic novels in all of Montréal’s libraries, new spaces include a comic-creator’s atelier, study rooms for patrons, a computer lab, several activity rooms, a self-service return system, video game consoles, electronic tablet loans and more.
The library’s total gross floor area is now 4500 m2—1600 m2 more than the previous building, which had a gross floor area of 2900 m2.
For more information on the L’Octogone library renovation and expansion project, see our Frequently Asked Questions.
The L’Octogone library project has been funded as part of the Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal signed between Ville de Montréal and the government of Québec.
