Live from the Palais des congrès, the Société québécoise des professionnels en relations publiques (SQPRP) presented its annual awards at the 24th edition of its Gala des Prix d’excellence held on Wednesday, May 19, broadcast in virtual mode. The 16 projects that stood out included the Rendez-vous de l’écocitoyen organized by the Arrondissement de Saint-Laurent in October 2019. The jury, composed of 36 public relations professionals, awarded the Rendez-vous a Gold Award in the Tactical – Events category.
The Rendez-vous de l’écocitoyen is an opportunity to gather and discuss the challenges of an ecological transition and the fight against climate change. In preparation, the Division des communications et des relations avec les citoyens put in place a major communication strategy including traditional and digital tools adapted to various target audiences.
“For nearly two decades, Saint-Laurent has intensified its initiatives to become a leader in sustainable development. Then, a few years ago, we began seeking ways to involve our population even more in reaching this objective. That’s what spawned the Rendez-vous de l’écocitoyen concept! In addition to engaging a great many internal and external partners, we had to plan a full program and, of course, promote it! This required our teams to venture off the beaten path and innovate, which resulted in the event being a resounding success. I am therefore extremely proud that the quality of the Rendez-vous’ organization and promotion is today being recognized and rewarded by a panel of experts.”
Alan DeSousa, the Mayor of Saint-Laurent
The Rendez-vous de l’écocitoyen
Held on October 26, 2019 at the Complexe sportif, the first edition of the Rendez-vous de l’écocitoyen attracted approximately 1200 visitors who wanted to learn more about positive actions to take in their environments. Involving 80 partners, this major gathering offered a venue where participants learned exactly how to take action, one gesture at a time! The Rendez-vous featured some 20 exhibitors and a workshop program on ecohealth, responsible consumption, zero waste, electromobility and adapting to climate change. To ensure its success, the Arrondissement had designed and rolled out a promotion campaign primarily on digital platforms, specifically social media, to limit the use of paper in accordance with the event’s objectives.
It is noteworthy that the work of the team at the Division des communications et des relations avec les citoyens de Saint-Laurent has been recognized by the SQPRP in the past. In 2016, it won the Platinum and Silver awards for its communication campaign for the introduction of organic waste collection at buildings with 8 units or less, and, in 2017, a Silver award for the Demain à Saint-Laurent public consultation.
