The borough of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce has already taken significant steps to conserve the Boisé Dora-Wasserman in Parc Mackenzie-King.
Its collaboration over the last few years with Espace pour la vie, Les Amis de la Montagne, the Friends of the Biodôme and the AmiEs du boisé Dora-Wasserman has enabled it to initiate a drawing competition. Youth in grades 9, 10 and 11 from CDN high schools have participated. The students submitted drawings to raise awareness on the protection of the neighbourhood’s natural areas.
Three issues that specifically concern the Boisé Dora-Wasserman were pointed out:
- Feeding the squirrels
- Walking outside of the trails
Their research empowered them to propose solutions and to express them in an artistic format.
The artwork chosen by the collaborating organizations were reproduced on signs to be installed at the entrances to the wooded area in order to raise awareness among those who walk there.
