In the spring, I give blood! This spring, let those in need of a blood transfusion enjoy the return of warmer days too!
Verdun Borough Mayor, Jean-François Parenteau, invites you to the blood drive, by appointment only, to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 26 & 27, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. , at Marcel-Giroux Community Centre, 4501, rue Bannantyne, Verdun. To make an appointment, you can communicate with Héma-Québec at 1 800 343-7264 or at [email protected] The members of the Héma-Québec team and the volunteers hope to welcome 150 donors.
Every 80 seconds, a person needs blood in Quebec. The collective blood supply belongs to everyone. It doesn’t matter where the blood is collected. It’s processed and tested, and then it goes to where it is needed most — where it is needed to help save lives. Every day, Héma-Québec must collect at least 1,000 blood donations in order to meet the demand from Quebec hospitals.
Who can give?
Anyone who is healthy and 18 years of age or older can generally donate blood. Before going to a blood drive, you can check your eligibility with Donor Services at 1-800-847-2525 or visit the Héma-Québec website, Donors > Blood > Who Can Donate?
If you have travelled recently, check to see if your destination is considered at risk for malaria, the Zika virus or similar viruses.
Héma-Québec’s mission is to efficiently provide blood components and substitutes, human tissues and cord blood that are safe, of optimal quality and in sufficient quantity to meet the needs of Quebeckers; to offer and develop specialized and innovative expertise, services and products in the areas of transfusion medicine and human tissue grafting.
