Welcome baby box: For newborn Montrealers
Are you expecting a baby? Starting January 1, 2024, you can receive a welcome kit containing useful items for children under age 1 and their parents.
What’s in the welcome kit
The box holds a dozen educational, useful, locally made items for newborns, including a blanket and a bib.
The box is decorated with illustrations representing the city’s coat of arms. It makes a great storage or keepsake box.
Who can get a box
Parents of all newborns can receive this welcome kit, whatever their immigration status may be. To get a box, you must:
- Live in one of Montréal’s 19 boroughs
- Have a baby born on or after January 1, 2024
- Be the child’s parent or legal guardian (one box per child)
How to get a box
Starting January 1, 2024, just visit one of the city’s 45 libraries within 12 months of the child’s birth to get your welcome kit.
Bring:
- Proof of the parent’s address issued by a recognized organization, e.g. utility bill, bank statement
- Proof of the child’s birth, e.g. attestation of birth, birth certificate, health insurance card, vaccination record
The Montréal Identification and residence card issued by Médecins du monde and the Ville-Marie Accès Montréal office will also be accepted. You do not need to make a reservation.
