Welcoming Ukrainians: What’s the city doing?
Montréal is ready to welcome Ukrainian nationals and is putting actions in place to facilitate their arrival and integration.
Actions to help Ukrainians integrate
The city is working with the government of Québec and local organizations to welcome and integrate Ukrainian migrants. The city is connecting partners with each other through its Bureau d’intégration des nouveaux arrivants à Montréal so that migrants can be taken in and oriented as soon as they arrive to settle here.
In particular, the city:
- Has been in contact with the Ukrainian community since the war broke out and is mobilizing partners to coordinate response around the needs of community members.
- Is directing residents, organizations and companies that would like to make donations or get involved to the right organizations and relevant resources.
- Is making temporary housing sites available to the government of Québec.
- Is issuing city ID and residence cards to Ukrainian migrants.
- Is preparing its departments (museums, libraries, transportation, etc.).
How can you help?
The greatest needs are humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and the best way to help is to donate money. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress Web site (UCC) states which material donations are accepted and the places where they can be donated.
