Description

On January 1, 2016, the government of Québec implemented the Grant for Seniors to Offset a Municipal Tax Increase.

Revenu Québec provides this assistance as part of processing your annual income tax declaration.

Eligibility

To receive this grant, you must meet the conditions set out by the government of Québec. Some criteria involve your building, while others involve you as the owner.

To be eligible, your building:

  • Must be entirely residential.
  • Cannot comprise more than one dwelling unit.
  • Must have had an increase in valuation of at least 18.78 per cent from the 2020-2022 property assessment roll.

Each year in February, Montréal sends a document to all owners whose building is eligible.

You are responsible for checking to be sure you meet the government of Québec’s other criteria.

Among other criteria, you must:

  • Be 65 or older.
  • Have a family income that is lower than the threshold set by Revenu Québec.
  • Have owned the building in question for at least 15 years.
  • Live in the building as a primary residence.

See all conditions of eligibility on the Revenu Québec Web site.

Apply for the grant

You must apply for the grant when you file your annual income tax declaration.

Use the information on the document the city sends you to complete Revenu Québec’s Form TP-1029.TM. Submit this form with your income tax declaration.
