Call for projects in visuel and digital arts in LaSalle
Following the cancellation of its regular summer programming due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Borough of LaSalle would like to maintain its support for the creation and presentation of the arts in accordance with the guidelines of public health authorities.
Collective exhibition in contemporary art – La Grande Promenade
The idea of a major exhibition was conceived. We have chosen to welcome seven artists and to deconfine art in the various public spaces, parks and select living spaces in order to present their artwork in complete safety.
This call for projects is inviting seven professional artists, collectives or non-profit organizations working in visual and digital arts to participate in a group exhibition on the theme of strolling. A nod to our daily walks in times of confinement, the exhibition is inspired by surrealist artists who claimed that urban strolling is an activity that can bring out “the outpouring of the unconscious, the emergence of the unexpected, poetic shock”.
Far from the Surrealists’ era, in the current context of the health crisis, unprecedented economic recession, demonstrations against racial violence, what thoughts do our strolls and walks of today bring to mind? The exhibition will be presented outdoors, August 1 - October 1, 2020, at various locations in our borough (shop windows, parks, sidewalks, trees, fences, etc.) as well as on various media, depending on the proposals received.
Call for projects
The Borough is looking for professional artists who want to propose a work of art or a series of artwork from their portfolio or in progress that can be installed and presented outdoors for a period of two months. Variable in size, discreet or imposing, conveying a message or in search of an absolute of shapes and colours, the works of art may be projected, suspended, inserted, hung, fixed, or placed. All proposals are eligible as long as their installation is considered to be possible and safe.
Funding
Royalties for exhibitions range from $1,500 to $3,000.
Eligibility
Artist (and collective): Have professional status.
Selection criteria
Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Artistic quality, originality and relevance of the artwork in relation to the theme of the exhibition and the present context
- Feasibility and autonomy - light deploy works of art, requiring little operational support from the Borough
- tability and sustainability - a stable installation that does not pose any risks to the safety of people, and materials that can withstand the elements for a period of 2 months
Proposals that do not comply with the health guidelines recommended by the regional public health authorities in the Direction régionale de santé publique are not eligible.
