Call for proposals – Support for cultural and creative industries business events

Montréal is offering one-time financial support to organizations receiving assistance under the Programme de soutien aux festivals et aux événements culturels or the Fonds marchés et vitrines culturels et créatifs, to help them adapt their B2B component to the constraints created by the pandemic.

Description

The purpose of the support measure is to help cultural events or festivals market their products and expertise in a hybrid or cloud environment. It is intended for events with a component targeting businesses, which initially required buyers to attend in person, acquire virtual shop windows and organize B2B activities.

Selected event promoters can develop new revenue models (sales, sponsorships, partnerships), launch new virtual platforms for transactional and B2B activities (logistics and customer experience) and strategically reorganize (positioning and value-added activities).

The support will help them ensure the discoverability of Québec’s creative content. 

The financial assistance includes two components:

  • Technological component 

An amount of $10,000 to support the technological innovation involved in marketing and developing new digital activities for businesses. 

The financial support under the technological component must be combined with the guidance referred to in the second component.

  • Guidance component

An amount of $5,000 to guide promoters in strategically reorganizing their events in the short, medium and long terms. Promoters can work with the consultant(s) of their choice.

Please note that the first phase of this project has already taken place for events being held between November 2020 and June 2021.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must meet the following conditions:

 

Organizations

  • Be a non-profit organization legally incorporated in Québec or Canada
  • Have your principal place of business on the Montréal agglomeration territory 
  • Have fulfilled your commitments linked to the financial support received from the city and be in good standing with the city’s various departments 
  • Have received support in 2020 under one of the following programs offered by the Service de la culture:
    • Programme de soutien aux festivals et aux événements culturels (PSFEC) AND have a transactional or B2B business component
    • Fonds marchés et vitrines culturels et créatifs
  • Not have been selected for phase 1 of the call for proposals - Support for business events in 2020 for industries in the arts/creative sector

 

Project

  • The virtual or hybrid cultural business event must be held between July 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021. Expenses are not retroactively eligible.
  • Innovative marketing solutions and B2B networking activities must be organized during the event.
  • Virtual mechanisms and tools must be set up to encourage and facilitate creative B2B marketing of Montréal content (digital platform, transactional site, interactive site, virtual display, etc.).
  • The event must aim to generate national and international sales of Montréal’s cultural products in the best performing sectors.
  • The event must promote networking activities between businesses, organizations and creators.
  • The new tools must be launched soon after the financial contribution is paid.

Application

Applications must be filed before 11:59 p.m. onDecember 18, 2020. Submissions received after that date will not be accepted. Only complete applications will be submitted to the review committee. 

To take advantage of the program, you must provide the following documents: 

  • A duly completed application form (in French)
  • All of the following supporting documents:
    •  Letters patent
    • Resolution of the board of directors authorizing the filing of an application
    • Financial statements of the last fiscal year, adopted by your organization’s board of directors 
    • Detailed project and event budget
    • Timetable

Application review

Applications will be reviewed according to the following criteria: 

  • Applicant’s capacity to implement the project
  • Relevance
  • Reach for the sector represented
  • Short-term feasibility
  • Budget and ratio between the cost and number of companies that could take part
  • Clarity in the presentation of guidance needs

 

The city reserves the right to refuse a project that meets the criteria, in order to favour a variety of projects.

 

The results will be released in February 2021.
