Social economy challenge: Acting to support the ecological transition

Are you a social economy company or community organization that would like to make a contribution to the ecological transition? The city is offering funding for projects that reduce the amount of landfilled wasted and are based on the principles of circular economy.

Description

This call for projects is part of the “Acting Now to Prepare Recovery” economic plan. The initiative aims to support a social economy project that reduces, re-uses, recycles or converts construction materials or clothing that would otherwise be landfilled.

Objectives

  1. The project must meet one of two objectives:
  • Reduce landfilling of construction, renovation and demolition (CRD) debris
  • Reduce landfilling of clothing

2. The project must be based on one or more circular economy strategies.

3. It must also meet the global objectives of the 2020-2025 Residual Materials Management to divert waste from landfills by making 3RD (reduce, reuse, recycle or develop) a priority.

Eligibility criteria

  • Be a non-profit social economy company or community organization with a social economy project.
  • Have an active establishment in Québec.
  • Avoir de saines pratiques financières et de gouvernance.

Project delivery

The project must begin on September 1, 2021 or when the agreement is signed by both parties, and end no later than September 1, 2023.

Funding

Selected projects could receive up to $500,000 in financial support. The assistance provided by the city represents 100 per cent of eligible expenses.

Eligible expenses

  • Salaries
  • Professional fees
  • Purchasing or renting rolling stock or equipment
  • Space rentals and rental improvements related to the project
  • Expenses related to project promotion and delivery
  • Studies and diagnostics
  • Management fees (administrative monitoring of the project)

Evaluation of applications

A jury will evaluate applications according to the following criteria:

  • Clearness of the issue being solved
  • Project relevance to objectives
  • Quality  and relevance of the project delivery plan (details of objectives, stages, activities and expected results)
  • Quality of support from the field (financial, technical or other)
  • Methods to track and measure the project’s benefits
  • The organization’s governance and financial practices
  • Experience of the organization and team members that is related to the project
  • Details of the budget and justification of the requested amount
  • Project’s longevity and/or ability to be reproduced

Projects will be unveiled at the end of August 2021.

Step 3: Required documents

Gather the following documents in digital format:

  • A resolution from your board of directors authorizing the signer to submit a project
  • Your letters patent
  • Audited financial statements for the past two years or an extract from your accounting software (such as Simply Accounting or Quickbooks) if the organization has existed for less than two years
