“Every child is an artist,” Picasso once said. This summer, give your children a chance to fulfill their artistic potential at one of the many municipal day camps offered across the city. They will have the opportunity to develop a new passion for theatre, drawing or cooking.
Day camps with a focus on the performing arts and theatre
The Camp des arts de la scène day camp (in French) near the Jean-Talon Market offers performing arts classes. Through a variety of workshops, participants learn under professional artists before presenting a show at the Théâtre Aux Écuries (in French). In the same vein, the Ateliers beaux-arts day camp (in French) allows kids to discover singing, theatre and acting. The Nos voix nos visages school (in French) offers performing arts day camps for kids ages six to 12, along with intensive theatre camps for teens ages 13 to 17. The Ateliers beaux-arts and Le Relais du bout day (in French) camps focus on acting, including improv, character creation, physical theatre and script writing.
Day camps that focus on drawing, painting, sculpture and the plastic arts
For children who enjoy crafts or fingerpainting, Le Relais du bout (in French) offers a day camp on the plastic arts, with activities including sculpture, painting and drawing. Le Relais du bout also offers the Camp Recycl’art, a workshop in which kids learn to create works from recycled objects, as well as the Camp constructo for kids who enjoy working with their hands and want to build bridges or structures.
Les Ateliers beaux-arts introduces kids ages five to 13 to the plastic arts (in French) using a sensory approach emphasizing the discovery of different forms of matter.
Saint-Laurent residents can register their kids for a camp that introduces participants to different forms of art (in French) under the watchful eye of specialized counsellors.
Notice to aspiring multidisciplinary artists: Camp Vue sur la relève (in French) offers introductory workshops on drawing, painting, sculpture, scenography, sewing, set design and digital arts. Kids also get to work directly under actors and artists as they create sets, accessories and costumes.
Cooking day camp
Imagine the pleasure of coming home and seeing that the meal is already made thanks to the culinary talents of your son or daughter! Le Relais du bout (in French) and the Centre Roussin (in French) offer a day camp that introduces participants to the culinary arts and cooking techniques. Kids learn to cook while having fun and discovering scrumptious new recipes.
Music day camp
The Centre Roussin (in French) offers a day camp for kids who love music. This camp introduces participants to music and lets them hone their skills on the piano or guitar as they prepare to present a show.
Digital arts day camp
Numéricamp (in French) invites kids ages seven to 12 to discover the magic of digital technology through a host of activities: 3D design, digital design, and more. Rest assured, the camp also includes many outings and outdoor activities — the perfect combination for budding technology buffs!
