Saint-Laurent amends its bylaw to restrict vehicle noise
To improve quality of life and preserve the peace and quiet of neighborhoods, Saint-Laurent is strengthening its noise pollution regulations. Excessive noise from vehicles is now prohibited.
At its session on November 25, the Saint-Laurent Borough Council adopted an amendment to introduce specific limits on noise emitted by vehicles, including—but not limited to—passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and heavy vehicles.
With the amendment 1140-14, the following noises are now considered nuisances and are prohibited:
- Rattling vehicle parts or loose items on vehicles
- The abusive use of audible warning devices
- Excessive noise from a radio or other broadcasting device
- Squealing tires
- Noise from an inefficient exhaust system
- Excessive engine revving when starting, stopping, or during repeated accelerations
The Saint-Laurent community is invited to actively work together to reduce noise pollution and contribute to a harmonious living environment.
I am proud to announce this amendment to the nuisance bylaw, as it delivers on an important commitment for our administration: providing a peaceful environment for our citizens. As Saint-Laurent is an arrondissement with a strong family vocation, preserving quality of life in our neighbourhoods is essential.
