Located in Westmount, this construction site aims to recondition and rebuild water and sewer pipes. What’s the goal? To preserve a high-quality drinking water supply and an optimal sewer system for now and for generations to come.
More about this worksite
When?
June to December 2025.
Where?
On Avenue Greene, between Rue Saint-Antoine Ouest and Rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest.
What?
Work projected for Avenue Greene, between Saint-Antoine and Dorchester:
- Reconditioning by inserting a lining in both water and sewer pipes;
- Replacement of water connections;
- Replacement of fire hydrants and water connections;
- Reconstruction of a valve chamber.
Reconditioning a pipe with the lining technique consists of inserting a sleeve meant to mold onto the interior of the cleaned pipe. This extends the life of the water pipe by at least 50 years.
Work projected for Avenue Greene, between Dorchester and Sainte-Catherine:
- Reconstruction of the watermain;
- Reconstruction of a valve chamber;
- Connection of the secondary water pipes to the new watermain;
- Work on the Hydro-Westmount system.
The reconstruction of the water pipe will require the excavation, by phases, of the segment of Avenue Greene, between Dorchester and Sainte-Catherine. The new pipe will be connected to the existing pipes and water service connections.
The pavement and sidewalks will be repaired wherever excavations are carried out.
Why?
The watermain that supplies drinking water to part of the population of Westmount was built in 1892 and broke several times, requiring numerous repairs in recent years. Work will ensure the durability of the pipe and secure the drinking water supply. As for the sewer pipe it is made of brick, and dates back to the 1900’s. Its reconditioning using the lining technique is required to preserve its integrity and to maintain an optimal sewer service.
