Development of a cycling link on Avenue Émile-Journault

The development of a cycling link accessible year-round on Avenue Émile-Journault will begin during the month of September 2025. The city will also take the opportunity to rehabilitate certain underground infrastructures and carry out paving operations in the area.

On Avenue Émile-Journault between Avenue Henri-Julien and Avenue Papineau 

 What

  • Development of a one-way bike path on each side of the street between Rue Berri and Avenue Papineau.
  • ​Development of buffer zones between the parking lane or the traffic lane and the bike path using bollards and marking operations when the width of the road allow it.
  • Replacement of lead water service connections for the concerned buildings. 
  • Addition and reprogramming of traffic lights.
  • Installation of road signage.​​
  • Asphalting on certain road sections.

  1. Between Avenue Henri-Julien and Rue Berri
  • Traffic maintained in both designated directions
  • Parking places maintained
  1. Between Rue Berri and Rue Saint-Hubert
  • One-way protected bike paths on both sides of the street
  • One traffic lane maintained in each direction
  • Removal of all parking places
  1. Between Rue Saint-Hubert and Avenue Papineau
  • One-way protected bike paths on both sides of the street
  • One traffic lane maintained in each direction
  • Removal of parking spaces on one side of the street 

Why? 

  • Facilitate direct access to popular sites in the neighbourhood, notably the Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard, Parc Frédéric-Back and Collège Ahuntsic.
  • Make travel safer for cyclists.
  • Connect several existing cycling links in the area, including the Berri and Lajeunesse EBN routes, along with the bike paths on Avenue Christophe-Colomb and Avenue Henri-Julien. 
  • Ensure the fair sharing of the road between cyclists and motorists.
  • Ease car traffic.

Open house event

On May 1, 2025, the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough and the city held an open house event to present the borough’s various bike path development projects.
