  • Rue Saint-Denis between Boulevard René-Lévesque Est and Avenue Viger

Why

The city is continuing its work aimed at creating a dynamic and people-friendly new environment that will ease traffic and facilitate travel for pedestrians and cyclists alike. 

A transformed Rue Saint-Denis 

What

  • Reconstruction of the water main at the corner of Avenue Viger and Rue Saint-Denis.
  • Sidewalks repaired and widened.
  • Construction of tree and vegetation pits.
  • Addition of street furniture.
  • Construction of an electric BIXI station at the corner of Rue Saint-Denis and Rue De La Gauchetière.
  • Improvement of lighting.
  • Upgrading of the Commission des services électriques de Montréal (CSEM) underground network.

Improvement of the Viger EBL

What

In 2025, the City of Montreal upgraded the Viger EBN between rues De Bullion and Berri. Among the new developments are: 

  • A one-way bike path westbound.
  • Concrete pedestrian refuges at intersections to protect cyclists and pedestrians.
  • Buffer zones between the parking lane and the bike path where the road is wide enough.
  • Programming of traffic lights in accordance with the requirements of the different modes of transportation, where required.
  • Curb extensions.
  • New trees and vegetation at a few intersections.
  • Electric BIXI station at the corner of Avenue Viger and Avenue de l’Hôtel-de-Ville.

Access to the CHUM​

Access to the CHUM and its parking lots is maintained at all times.
