The city is continuing its redevelopment work in the area around the CHUM by improving the Viger EBN and redeveloping Rue Saint-Denis.

When

From the spring of 2025 until the winter of 2026 

Where

  • Rue Saint-Denis between Boulevard René-Lévesque Est and Avenue Viger 
  • Avenue Viger between Rue De Bullion and Rue Berri

Why

The city is continuing its work aimed at creating a dynamic and people-friendly new environment that will ease traffic and facilitate travel for pedestrians and cyclists alike. 

A transformed Rue Saint-Denis 

What

  • Reconstruction of the water main at the corner of Avenue Viger and Rue Saint-Denis. 
  • Sidewalks repaired and widened. 
  • Construction of tree and vegetation pits. 
  • Addition of street furniture 
  • Construction of an electric BIXI station at the corner of Rue Saint-Denis and Rue De La Gauchetière. 
  • Improvement of lighting. 
  • Upgrading of the Commission des services électriques de Montréal (CSEM) underground network.

Improvement of the Viger EBL

What

  • Development of a one-way bike path westbound. 
  • Construction of concrete pedestrian refuges at intersections to protect cyclists and pedestrians. 
  • Addition of buffer zones between the parking lane and the bike path where the road is wide enough. 
  • Road repairs. 
  • Programming of traffic lights in accordance with the requirements of the different modes of transportation, where required. 
  • Construction of curb extensions. 
  • Planting of trees and vegetation at a few intersections. 
  • Construction of an electric BIXI station at the corner of Avenue Viger and Avenue de l’Hôtel-de-Ville.

Circulation et stationnement​

Rue Saint-Denis :

  • Maintien d’une voie en direction sud, entre le boulevard René-Lévesque et l’avenue Viger exclusivement réservée pour accéder au CHUM et à son stationnement.

Avenue Viger: 

  • Maintien d’une voie en direction ouest, entre les rues Saint-Denis et De Bullion;
  • Maintien de la voie cyclable, entre les rues Berri et de Bullion.

Rue de la Gauchetière : 

  • Aménagement d’une circulation à double sens, entre les rues Saint-Denis et Berri.

Boulevard René-Lévesque : 

  • Maintien de trois voies en direction est, entre les rues Sanguinet et Saint-Denis;
  • Mise en place d’aménagements alternatifs pour la circulation des piétons.

Pour assurer la sécurité et optimiser la fluidité des déplacements pendant les travaux, merci de respecter la signalisation (détours, circulation locale, etc.).

Accès au CHUM​

  • L’accès au CHUM et à ses stationnements sera maintenu;​

  • Des corridors piétons seront disponibles pour accéder à l’institution par la rue Saint-Denis et l’avenue Viger;​

  • Des panneaux indiqueront les chemins à suivre.
