Development project bordering the CHUM

The city will start development work in the area around the CHUM. All the work operations will take place over a period of two years.

When

Starting at the end of August, 2023

Where

  • On Rue De La Gauchetière between Rue St-Denis and Rue Berri
  • On Rue Saint-Denis between Boulevard René-Lévesque and Avenue Viger
  • On Rue Sanguinet

What

  • Permanent change in the direction of traffic on the section of Rue De La Gauchetière between Rue St-Denis and Rue Berri.
  • Installation of temporary curb extensions on the west side of Rue Saint-Denis between Rue Viger and Boulevard René-Lévesque. This pilot project will serve to change the geometry of the street and test vehicle mobility. The pilot project will end with the removal of the curb extensions in November 2023.

An area redevelopment that will evolve in years to come

2024 - First phase

  • Infrastructures and redevelopment of Rue Sanguinet
  • Infrastructures and redevelopment of the sidewalk south of Boulevard René-Lévesque

2025 : Second phase

  • Redevelopment of Rue Saint-Denis between Boulevard René-Lévesque and Avenue Viger

Why

This redevelopment work is aimed at widening the sidewalks, planting trees, and adding street furniture to encourage active mobility among local residents and users. The work is part of revitalization projects completed in the Champ-de-Mars area with the objective of easing traffic and facilitating travel for pedestrians and cyclists by enhancing its attractions.

Traffic and parking

Rue Saint-Denis (between Boulevard René-Lévesque and Viger)

  • Removal of three parking spaces on the east side of Rue St-Denis
  • Addition of four authorized short-term parking spaces (15 minutes) on the west side of Rue Saint-Denis

Rue De la Gauchetière (between Saint-Denis and Berri)

  • Change in the direction of traffic along this section. Currently, vehicles travel east to west, but effective August 22, they will travel west to east.
