Extension of the protected bike path on Rue Louvain

Work to extend the bike path on Rue Louvain will begin in the spring of 2025. This link, accessible year-round, will help make travel safer for cyclists, connect the different cycling links in the area, and facilitate access to popular sites in the neighbourhood.

On Rue Louvain between Rue Saint-Denis and Rue Saint-Hubert

What

  • Development of a one-way bike path on each side of the street between Rue Saint-Denis and Rue Saint-Hubert.
  • Rue Louvain transformed into one-way eastbound road between Rue Lajeunesse and Rue Saint-Hubert.
  • Addition and reprogramming of traffic lights.
  • Development of buffer zones between the parking lane or the traffic lane and the bike path using bollards and marking operations where the width of the road allows it.
  • Installation of road signage.

Projected developments

  1. Between Rue Saint-Denis and Rue Berri:
    • One-way protected bike lanes on both sides of the street
    • One traffic lane maintained in each direction
    • Removal of all parking spaces
  2. Between Rue Berri and Rue Lajeunesse
    • One-way protected bike lane eastbound
    • Designated street maintained westbound and one traffic lane per direction
    • Presence of a drop-off zone in front of Christ-Roi school 
  3. Between Rue Lajeunesse and Rue Saint-Hubert
    • One-way protected bike lanes on both sides of the street
    • Parking spaces maintained on the north side of the street
    • Conversion into a one-way street eastbound 

 Why

  • Secure bike travel, notably for students at École Christ-Roi.
  • Connect several existing cycling links in the area, including between the Berri and Lajeunesse EBN routes, and the bike lanes on Rue Saint-Hubert.
  • Facilitate direct access to very busy sites in the neighbourhood, including the École Christ-Roi, Parc Frédéric-Back and Parc Henri-Julien.
  • Ease car traffic.

Open-house event 

On May 1, 2025, Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough held an open-house event, in collaboration with the city, in order to present the various bike path development projects in the borough.
