May is garden month in Saint-Laurent. 🌻

Do you like gardening? Would you like to plant a vegetable garden in your yard or on your balcony? 

Throughout the month of May, you are invited to participate in a host of activities that will allow you to enjoy outdoor spaces, take a concrete action for biodiversity and participate in the greening efforts of Saint-Laurent.

PROGRAMMING

Selection of books on gardening and biodiversity
Bibliothèque du Boisé and Bibliothèque du Vieux-Saint-Laurent
Starting May 1
Thematic tables with various books on gardening, urban agriculture and biodiversity will be available for consultation or borrowing at the two Laurentian libraries. 

 
Conference-workshop Gardening in the city and learning how to plant your own seeds (In French)

Festival Cultivons la biodiversité à Saint-Laurent 
Saturday, May 13, 10 am to 3 pm, Parc Beaudet 
Visit this urban agriculture fair to purchase urban agriculture equipment, exchange seeds at the seed library and much more. The activity will be postponed to the next day in case of rain.

 
Free plant and seed basket distribution
Get a free “green basket”, a set of plants and seeds, to start your own edible garden in their yard or on their balcony. 

Two ways to get a basket containing:

1 Genovese (green) or Crimson King (purple) basil plant
1 Italian Granaderos tomato plant
1 Bright Lights chard plant (rainbow)
1 Dynamik strawberry plant (4 seasons)
1 bag of flower seed mix for pollinators

Saturday, May 13, 10 am to 3 pm, Parc Beaudet
Nos reservation.
First come, first served
Bring your own bag or box to transport the plants.
The activity will be postponed to the next day in case of rain.

Growing pots (smart pots) and pollinator-attracting plants will also be given to the first 200 visitors (proof of residency will be required).

(533, avenue Sainte-Croix, Saint-Laurent, H4L 3X6, behind Cégep Saint-Laurent)
No reservation
First come, first served
Bring your bag or box to transport the plants.
The activity takes place rain or shine.

Compost distribution
Saturday, May 20, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Municipal Workshops (13001, boulevard Cavendish)
First come, first served. 
Citizens will be able to purchase free compost and mulch. In addition, the first 300 visitors will receive a flowering shrub. 
Proof of address required.
Bring your shovel and container. The activity takes place rain or shine.

 Mon école écolo program
The 2023 edition of the program aims to raise awareness among young people in Saint-Laurent elementary and secondary schools on three themes: waste management, climate change and pollinator awareness. For more details on the program, visit this page.

Cie Écolo Program
In collaboration with VertCité, the borough offers a support service for businesses and industries in the realization of sustainable development projects including urban agriculture, greening and biodiversity. For more details on the program, visit this page.

Most Beautiful Garden Contest

From July 10 to 28, gardeners in Saint-Laurent will be invited to submit photos of their gardens or balconies to the borough. These photos will then be voted on online by the public from August 7 to 25. Prizes will be awarded to the gardens that receive the most votes. More information will be available in early June.
