May is garden month in Saint-Laurent.

Do you like gardening? Would you like to plant a vegetable garden in your yard or on your balcony? 

Throughout the month of May, you are invited to participate in a host of activities that will allow you to enjoy outdoor spaces, take a concrete action for biodiversity and participate in the greening efforts of Saint-Laurent.

PROGRAM

Selection of books on gardening and biodiversity
Bibliothèque du Boisé and Bibliothèque du Vieux-Saint-Laurent
Starting May 1
Thematic tables with various books on gardening, urban agriculture and biodiversity will be available for consultation or borrowing at the two Laurentian libraries.

Conference Cultiver ses légumes en toute simplicité et durabilité  (In French)

Saturday, May 4, 2 to 3 p.m.
Maison Robert-Bélanger

If you want to grow your own vegetables sustainably, ecologically and without too much effort, this conference is for you. You’ll learn how to work the soil and enrich it naturally. You’ll also discover how to prevent pests and diseases through simple tricks. You’ll learn how to save and manage water in the garden, and which plants to choose to withstand water shortages.  
Registration required: link coming in April.
Places are limited. Participants will leave with plants.

Bibliothèque du Boisé
Discover urban biodiversity by visiting educational kiosks. A passport will give you a chance to win biodiversity-related prizes.

Free distribution of plants 
Get free vegetable plants, vegetables and seeds to start your own edible garden in your backyard or on your balcony. 

Distributions take place rain or shine, while supplies last.
Bring your own bag or box for transport.
First come, first served. No registration required.

Distribution of seedlings, seed packets of plants for pollinators and native plants for wildlife.

Compost distribution day
Distribution of vegetable plants and plant seed packets for pollinators.

Saturday, May 25, Parc Beaudet, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cultivons Saint-Laurent Festival
Distribution of vegetable plants and plant seed packets for pollinators.

Saturday, May 18
8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
Ateliers municipaux (13001 Cavendish Blvd.)
You must now register online and choose the type of tree you would like to receive, as well as the pick-up time. One tree will be given to each address in Saint-Laurent. 
Registration: From April 15 to May 17, at noon.
Proof of address will be required on site to validate the reservation.

Saturday, May 18, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Municipal Workshops (13001, boulevard Cavendish)
First come, first served. 
The event will take place rain or shine, while supplies last. 
Bring your containers and proof of address from Saint-Laurent.

Most Beautiful Garden Contest
From July 8 to 26, gardeners in Saint-Laurent will be invited to submit photos of their gardens or balconies to the borough. These photos will then be voted on online by the public from August 12 to 30. Prizes will be awarded to the gardens that receive the most votes. More information will be available in early June.
