Parc du Mont-Royal: Redevelopment of the south-west side

The south-west side provides a key access point from the downtown core. The construction work aims to rebalance natural habitats that were weakened by high visitor traffic, as well as invasive alien species, while also improving access to the area.
When?
From September 2025 to Spring 2027
Where?
On the south-west side, located between the Maison Smith and Montréal General Hospital
What?
- Development of an entrance and stairway in front of Montréal General Hospital
- Installation of directional signs and urban furniture
- Construction of curbs and culverts on Chemin Olmsted
- Development of stormwater management infrastructure
Tree care:
Plantation of nearly 1,800 deciduous and coniferous trees, 500 shrubs and 600 native perennials
Elimination of invasive alien species that disrupt the park’s biodiversity and felling of sick or dead trees for optimal forest regeneration
Why?
- To improve accessibility to that specific area of the park
- To provide high-quality infrastructure for enhanced visitor experience
- To upgrade mobility on the mountain by providing easy access from the downtown core
- To allow for optimal forest regeneration and protect biodiversity
