Parc Jeanne-Mance gets a makeover

The park, which is an iconic site at the foot of Mount Royal, is being upgraded to better address the needs of Montrealers. The redevelopment project will focus on the multi-sports playing field, the wading pool and the welcome centre. Find out everything you need to know about these upgrades.

Multi-sport playing field

The multi-sports playing field will be redeveloped to make it more accessible and enjoyable. 

When

September 2024 to July 2025

Where

Northern sector near Rue Rachel Ouest and Avenue de l’Esplanade 

What

  • Lowering fences and removing fences around bleachers 
  • Installing a lighting system with remote control 
  • New multi-purpose bleachers for universal accessibility 
  • Installing misting devices



The current synthetic surface will eventually be replaced by a new one designed to reduce heat islands and the risk of injury. 

Why

  • Improve access to the playing surface 
  • Reduce light pollution and improve energy efficiency of facilities 
  • Improve the park’s universal accessibility 

Welcome centre and wading pool 

Renovations include new play fountains and universally accessible facilities.

What

  • Upgrading the pool and adding a gently sloping deck 
  • Creating a play fountain area 
  • Creating universally accessible changing rooms and washrooms 
  • Modernizing the building’s mechanical systems and replacing windows

Why

  • Make the wading pool and welcome centre universally accessible 
  • Enhance the visitor experience 

    A fenced-in dog park is also planned for the southern sector near Avenue Duluth. The dog park will be accessible beginning in spring 2025. This will be a temporary location until it is relocated.
