Pierrefonds-Roxboro will redevelop Boulevard Lalande, between Rue Saraguay Est and Rue Colonial, to improve travel safety. The riverbanks will also be redeveloped in accordance with current environmental requirements to restore their natural character and increase their resilience.

When

  • Redevelopment of Boulevard Lalande: work scheduled for July to August 2026;
  • Greening of the riverbank at Parc de la Promenade-Lalande: preparatory work and vegetation management scheduled to begin in March 2026. All work is expected to be completed in fall 2026.

What

  • One-way traffic in the eastbound direction starting in September 2026;
  • Addition of two bike lanes, one in each direction, separated by markings and bollards;

  • Narrowing of the space reserved for cars to reduce their speed. Access to schools and private entrances will not be affected;

  • Addition of a sidewalk that is safe 12 months a year along the river;

  • Integration of native plants in Parc de la Promenade-Lalande to promote biodiversity and reduce erosion near the Rivière des Prairies;

  • Improvement of the park’s visual appearance through landscaping, which will include new urban furniture.

Why

Since Boulevard Lalande is located along the Rivière des Prairies, the project must meet new environmental requirements for riverside development. These spaces must be natural and require no maintenance. As a result, Parc de la Promenade-Lalande will no longer be a grassy area. It will be renaturalized with native plants (trees, shrubs, and perennials) to protect sensitive natural environments and comply with current ministerial regulations.

The concept for the new development of the boulevard (presented in April 2023) takes into account the impact on all users in terms of safety, accessibility, transit traffic, and tranquility.

Details on tree felling work

Tree felling and pruning work is planned on both sides of Boulevard Lalande. The operation is being carried out several weeks in advance to respect bird nesting periods and limit the impact on wildlife.

Only dead, diseased, or dangerous trees, including invasive exotic plant species, will be cut down.

Pruning is intended to promote sunlight exposure for the new landscaping and the growth of the plants that will be planted there. In total, approximately 75 trees and around 8,000 perennials and shrubs will be added.
