In 2026, Montréal will continue construction on Rue De Castelnau Est.

The project aims to make travel in the area safer and repair underground and surface infrastructure. It is also an opportunity to improve the street with a new urban design for Place De Castelnau and the addition of a green space.

  • On Rue De Castelnau Est, between Rue Saint-Hubert and Rue Saint-Dominique
  • On Rue Lajeunesse, between Rue Dufour and Rue Jean-Talon Est
  • On Rue Berri, between Rue De Castelnau Est and Rue Jean-Talon Est

What?

  • Reconstruction of sewer, waterworks and electrical systems, along with gas lines, Bell networks, sidewalks and pavement
  • Replacement of lead water service lines 
  • Pavement repair
  • Changing traffic lights and street lights
  • Planting trees and landscaping
  • Development of a new permanent urban design for Place De Castelnau 
  • Addition of a green space at the corner of Rue Lajeunesse and Rue De Castelnau Est

Why?

  • Ensure the safety of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians through the concept of street sharing
  • Improve existing bike paths
  • Improve the lighting of Place De Castelnau for greater safety and a more pleasant atmosphere
