Third phase of the Quartier des gares project

Adopted in January 2016 following public consultations at the OCPM, the Special Planning Program (SPP) of the Quartier des gares includes actions that aim to:

  • Offer all users an attractive, high-quality urban environment;
  • Make the area pedestrian-friendly
  • Encourage private businesses to develop the many vacant lots.

The work to redevelop Rue Saint-Jacques is the third phase of the Quartier des gares project. Phases 1 and 2 were completed between 2016 and 2020.

Phase 1 was carried out in 2016 and 2017. This phase involved surfacing work and replacement of underground infrastructure on Rue de la Montagne, between Rue Saint-Antoine and Boulevard René-Lévesque, and on Rue Drummond, between Avenue des Canadiens-de-Montréal and Boulevard René-Lévesque.

Phase 2, carried out between 2018 and 2020, involved surface redevelopment and repairs to underground infrastructure on the following streets:

  • Rue Lucien L’Allier, between Rue Saint-Antoine and Boulevard René-Lévesque, and between Rue Saint-Jacques and Rue Victor-Hugo;
  • Avenue Overdale, between Rue Lucien L’Allier and Rue Mackay;
  • Avenue des Canadiens-de-Montréal, between Rue de la Montagne and Rue Peel. The project transformed this avenue into a shared street;
  • Rue Stanley, between Avenue des Canadiens-de-Montréal and Boulevard René-Lévesque.
