Drinking water and sewer pipes located underneath Rue Saint-Jacques in Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce will be repaired to prevent breaks and extend their lifespan.

About this project

When?

From May 2025 to fall 2026

The construction site is on winter break and work will resume in March 2026.

Where?

Rue Saint-Jacques, between Rue Lily-Simon and Avenue Madison.

What?

The project involves repairing the main on Rue Saint-Jacques between Rue Lily-Simon and Avenue Madison, which has a 300 mm diameter, as well as sewer mains between Rue Helen-Rochester and Avenue Madison.

The project consists of the following steps:

  • Repair of a water main with a diameter of 300 mm over a length of 200 metres
  • Rebuilding a 300 mm drinking water main
  • Installation of valve chambers including connections and accessories
  • Repairs to sewer lines, repairing and rebuilding sewer and sump connections
  • Replacement of 50 mm and 150 mm water connections
  • Replacement of lead water service lines
  • Repair work on mixed-use pavement cutting and sidewalk and concrete curb repairs

Why?

This section is served by two water pipes, a 200 mm secondary water pipe installed in 1911 and a 300 mm main water pipe installed in 1906. These two pipes have reached more than 92% of their lifespan.

Hydraulic simulations showed that these two pipes could be replaced with a single secondary pipe that would have the capacity to serve shops and provide adequate fire protection.
