Why?
Work aims to recondition water and sewer conduits that are over a hundred years old
- The 600 mm water pipe made of grey cast iron, located under Avenue De Lorimier and installed in 1892has undergone a number of breaks and leaks over the past few years. Due to these repeated incidents, it was decided the pipe would be monitored for a year, in order to follow its evolution and decay in real time. Following a verification of its state, it was taken out of commission preventively last year.
- The 750 mm water pipe under Boulevard De Maisonneuve, installed in 1901, is still in service. Its numerous breaks and leaks were recorded over the past few years. Although the pipe had been reconditioned, it broke so many times that this places it at high risk at this time.
- Given the worrisome state of the pipe and to eliminate any risk of it breaking again, the Direction du Réseau d’Eau decided to proceed with the reconditioning of the pipes in question. The work aims to significantly enhance the system’s reliability, to ensure the durability of municipal assets, and to contribute to the remediation of the city’s infrastructure maintenance deficit.
- The 900 mm x 600 mm water pipe under Rue Ontario, installed in 1875, is still in service.
- The 200 mm water pipe under Rue de Rouen, installed in 1905, is still in service.
