CMM Presentation on the New Provisional Flood Zone Maps in Pierrefonds-Roxboro
The mayor Dimitrios (Jim) Beis and the Pierrefonds-Roxboro Borough Council members invite its residents to an information session on the new provisional flood zone maps, presented by the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM).
Description
Pierrefonds-Roxboro residents are encouraged to attend an information session on the new provisional flood zone maps, developed by the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) and based on the proposed regulations from the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks. This event will take place on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the Pierrefonds Cultural Centre.
About flood maps information session
Following the release of the provisional flood zone mapping by the CMM, this meeting aims to present the changes that will impact approximately 1,800 buildings in Pierrefonds-Roxboro—an increase of 260% in the number of buildings located in flood-risk areas compared to the previous 2019 map. Of these buildings, 70% were not included in the Special Intervention Zone (ZIS) and have therefore never been flooded or deemed at risk of flooding. During this event, residents will have the opportunity to learn about the potential impacts of this new regulation, prior to its adoption by the National Assembly, on both property and ongoing redevelopment projects. They will also be able to ask questions directly to CMM representatives.
The Pierrefonds Cultural Centre can accommodate around 200 attendees, so we encourage you to reserve your spot in advance, as seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The presentation will also be streamed live for those who cannot attend in person.
We also encourage citizens to participate in the provincial public consultation, held by the Government of Quebec until October 17, to share their opinions on the proposed regulations before adoption.
For more information, refer to the press release issued by the borough on September 30.
