Report an election sign that has fallen or that poses a safety hazard

Last updated February 28, 2023

Have you seen an election sign obstructing the view of a traffic light or sign, or lying in the street? Learn how to report it.

Political parties are permitted to hang election signs on municipal, government or school grounds. Signs can be placed on public utility poles, but it is prohibited to post them on trees.

Election signs can also be placed on private property, with the property owner’s agreement.

Regulations on electoral signs come under provincial jurisdiction. The Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities stipulates that election signs must be removed no more than 15 days after an election.
