Use a BBQ grill in a neighbourhood park

Check the rules for your park, as they vary by borough. For example, some sites allow charcoal grills and others do not allow gas grills.

Charcoal or gas grills are allowed in the picnic areas of these parks:

Barbecue grills should preferably be placed on the metal tables provided or on the ground. Grills may not be placed on street furniture (picnic tables, benches) or at the foot of a tree.

Charcoal ashes must be deposited in the metal ash bins on site.

Bring a cart or bags to bring your dishes and utensils. It is prohibited to drive into a park.

Please:

  • Use the permanent grills in the designated area. 
  • Only use wood charcoal briquettes. 
  • Put cooled ashes in the ash bin located in the BBQ area. 
  • Throw trash in garbage cans and clean up after yourself before you leave. 
  • Be respectful of those around you and limit the noise you make. 
  • Use plastic recipients for food and drinks (no glass). 

Please do not:

  • Use your own grill. 
  • Use grills when there are events in the park.
  • Leave a cooking fire unattended. 
  • Fuel your cooking fire with anything other than wood charcoal briquettes. 
  • Hang toys, tarpaulins or hammocks on trees or street furniture (benches, lamp posts). 
  • Drink alcohol.
  • Smoke or vaporize.
  • Barbecues are permitted in all borough parks if used safely. 
  • Charcoal barbecues are not recommended.
