Blue-collar workers’ strike from April 15 to April 18, 2026
The city’s blue-collar workers will be on strike from April 15, at 6 a.m., to Saturday, April 18, at 6 a.m. During this period, essential services will be maintained, while some resident services may be temporarily disrupted.
Essential services maintained
The following essential services related to resident safety will be maintained:
- Repair of traffic lights and signs damaged namely as a result of an accident
- Tree trimming or felling for safety reasons (emergency work required for trees located on public property)
- Road repairs (major holes or collapsed pavement)
- Cleaning of public areas for safety reasons
- Urgent work required on sewer or aqueduct systems
- Prevention rounds in municipal arenas
- Operations related to the spring freshet in certain boroughs (Ahuntsic-Cartierville, L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève, Pierrefonds-Roxboro)
- Operations related to drinking water production and wastewater treatment
- Maintenance of living collections (animals, plants and insects)
- Emergency situations (situations that pose a risk to citizens’ health and safety or emergency situations declared by municipal authorities
In Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough, household garbage collection services scheduled for April 15 will be maintained as an essential service, while the collection scheduled for April 16 will be postponed to Saturday, April 18, because it is carried out by blue-collar workers.
Expected impacts
The following services will be temporarily disrupted:
- Certain municipal facilities will be closed
- Certain activities and services will be postponed or cancelled
Check if facilities are open and if your activities are maintained before making your way there.
Activities and services scheduled for Saturday, April 18, will be maintained.
Parking restrictions related to street maintenance operations will be suspended across the territory for April 15, 16 and 17. All other parking and traffic restrictions remain in effect (paid parking, reserved resident parking zones, limited duration zones, reserved lanes, areas reserved for persons with reduced mobility and secure areas).
