In Lachine, Let's Take Up the Dandelion Challenge
This spring, the borough invites you to participate in the Défi Pissenlits / the Dandelion Challenge, by delaying the mowing of your lawn in order to provide pollinating insects with the nectar and pollen found in dandelion flowers.
By delaying mowing for a few days or a few weeks, you will provide a food supply for bees. Increasingly endangered, bees need us to provide them with an abundance of food. In retur, they pollinate more than a third of what we eat!
Given this Dandelion Challenge, the enforcement of the bylaw on maintenance of private property will be postponed for a few weeks in the borough of Lachine, until the dandelions have fully bloomed.
The borough is delaying mowing dandelions on most of its properties this spring. However, mowing is carried out regularly when the use of the property requires it, such as on sports fields.
More space for nature in our parks
In addition, the borough is actively working to promote ecological balance in its green spaces through its differentiated mowing program. In targeted areas, landscaping activities are limited throughout the summer season to allow plants and wildlife to live together naturally. These areas are marked with a small sign.
