Grand parc de l’Ouest
The Grand parc de l’Ouest is an ideal destination for an escapade in nature, without leaving Montréal. It includes three areas that are open to the public and configured for outdoor activities: Anse-à-l’Orme, Bois-de-l’Île-Bizard and Cap-Saint-Jacques.
Description
With trails spanning over many kilometers, including the Grand sentier de l’Ouest, its 3 beaches and vastly diverse landscapes, the park is a prime destination for a variety of activities, including hiking, biking, water sports and swimming in summer, as well as cross-country skiing, sledding and snowshoeing in winter. It is also an excellent location for fishing, birdwatching and nature lovers.
The Grand parc de l’Ouest (GPO) was created in 2019 by merging 3 nature parks: Anse-à-l’Orme, Bois-de-l’Ile-Bizard and Cap-Saint-Jacques, in addition to the Parc des Rapides-du-Cheval-Blanc, a natural area that is currently closed to the public, Bois-de-la-Roche, an agricultural site, as well as various private natural sites.
Having an area equivalent to 15 times that of the Parc du Mont-Royal, the GPO ensures the protection of biodiversity, while providing a unique access to natural habitats for the population to enjoy.
