Place Balconville
Place Balconville, which is located at the corner of Boulevard LaSalle and Rue Argyle, is just a stone’s throw from the Maison de la culture de Verdun. Its name honours Verdun playwright David Fennario and his play “Balconville” (1979), the first bilingual work in Canadian theatre.
Description
The square, which is located near the neighbourhood where “Balconville” is set, evokes life in the working-class neighbourhoods of Verdun and the exchanges between neighbours on their balconies.
The layout, with its red Adirondack chairs, rectangular furniture and proximity to typical buildings, recreates the atmosphere of the play and is an inviting place to relax or socialize. The site is located in front of the former premises of the Black Rock Group, a theatre collective founded by David Fennario, which adds a historical dimension to this place of remembrance.
