Place du Pain-et-des-Roses
Public square located north of the old Marché Saint-Jacques in Saint-Jacques which offers an inviting green space for socializing and relaxing while helping to solve vehicle transit issues.
History
As part of the 30th anniversary of the Bread and Roses March, the public square located between Rue Atateken and Rue Wolfe, just north of the old Marché Saint-Jacques, was named the "Place du Pain-et-des-Roses." More than 850 women walked for 10 days towards the National Assembly in 1995 to draw attention to the issue of poverty.
This public square was made permanent in 2024.
The artwork in the center of the square is called Arbre aux galets, a commemorative work in memory of the losses and mourning of the pandemic that was created of works produced during pebble painting art therapy workshops that were offered in the neighbourhood to more than 200 people - including people who reside in the three long-term care centres in the area.
