Requesting an authorization for work on a heritage building

Are you planning work on a classified property or located within a classified site, a national historic site or in a protection area? Find out if you require an authorization under the Cultural Heritage Act, in addition to a construction work permit.

Form and documents

You must fill out the form, print it and include the required documents.

Depending on the type of work required, specific documents must be provided. These may include pictures of the immovable, location certificate, plans, expert reports, sketches and material samples. See the form for details.

If you are unsure about the designation of your property, contact your borough’s permit counter to confirm if it is a heritage building.

  • Owner’s contact information 
  • Details regarding the building requiring the work: address, cadaster, status designation under the Cultural Heritage Act 
  • Description of required work

Book an appointment at the permit counter and bring your full file.

Work and subsidy

Once you have received the authorization and permit, you may begin the work. Check if you are eligible for a subsidy to help with the restoration and renovation of your heritage building. 

Please note that an inspection maybe carried out upon completion of your project, to ensure conformity.
