Garbage containers and construction dumpsters
Last updated September 3, 2021
To use a garbage container or a construction dumpster, you must meet certain standards. Here’s what you need to know.
Garbage containers and construction dumpsters are two different things. In both cases, private companies are responsible for emptying the containers. On the other hand, the bins and garbage cans you use for regular collections are emptied by your borough.
- Most of the time, garbage containers are placed on private property. They are often used by merchants or by apartment building managers. No permit is required to install them on private property.
- Construction dumpsters are used during renovation and construction work. A permit is required if it will be placed on public property.
