Major work scheduled to begin soon to upgrade the aqueduct, sewer, electrical and telecommunications systems on Rue Masson. The street will be redeveloped to meet the needs of the area’s residents, store owners and visitors.

Rue Masson is one of Montréal’s iconic commercial streets. Located in the heart of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough, it is home to more than 150 businesses and a variety of service providers for 88,000 users, generating 1,500 jobs.

Designed together with the community

From the fall of 2023 to the spring of 2024, the city held a public consultation process to provide community members with an opportunity to express their needs regarding the future developments.

The consultation activities have contributed to the city’s design of the area, based on the needs expressed, in order to improve user experience.

The development scenario

Below are the elements selected as part of the final concept:

  • One vehicular traffic lane maintained in each direction
  • Widening of sidewalks on each side of the street between 1re Avenue and Boulevard Saint-Michel following the full removal of the parking spaces
  • Widening of the sidewalks on each side of the street between Boulevard Saint-Michel and 17e Avenue, by adding curbs, following the removal of approximately 50% of parking spaces
  • Greening of the street by adding trees and planting pits
  • Addition of urban furniture, such as benches
  • Maintenance of spaces for delivery zones and terraces

the final concept will be presented before the beginning of construction work.

Open house

On October 29, 2024, the city held an open house evening to present the results of the collaborative process and to ask for the population’s input regarding the development scenario.
