Renovations to bring the Aréna Martin-Lapointe up to standard will begin in September 2024 and will be completed in the spring of 2026. Arrondissement de Lachine plans to reopen the arena for the 2026-2027 season.

The Aréna Martin-Lapointe, closed since 2021, will be fully renovated thanks to a $28.3-million investment that includes a $13.2-million grant from the Québec government under the PAFIRSPA program. The sports facilities will also benefit from Ville de Montréal’s Program to support the upgrading of its municipal arenas.

The reopening of Aréna Martin-Lapointe in 2026 will make it possible to once again offer drop-in skating for local residents as well as activities for organizations such as Hockey Lachine and the Club de patinage artistique de Lachine, in addition to private rentals.

Interior and exterior work

All electromechanical and refrigeration equipment will be replaced with models that meet current environmental requirements. A new technical room will be built for the new equipment. Both main entrances will have canopies.

Masonry work will require the removal of the frescoes on the arena building. The project includes a new exterior mural.

A more accessible arena

The universal accessibility of the facilities will be greatly improved, in particular by:
• the addition of a ramp to a bleacher section
• the construction of a universally accessible washroom
• the replacement and upgrading of the fire alarm system, which will be equipped with audible and visual alarms
• the addition of automatic door openers or magnetic hold-openers to the main and secondary access doors

Moving towards LEED Silver certification

A number of energy efficiency measures will also be implemented, including the replacement of gas-powered equipment with electric systems. A stormwater retention basin will also be built.

The five trees that were removed because of their closeness to the building will be replaced. More trees will be planted upon completion of the work.

A 90% reduction in greenhouse gases (GHGs), energy-saving measures and other work will enable LEED Silver certification to be obtained once the work is completed.

Impact on your daily life

Access to municipal facilities

The parking lot at the Aréna Martin-Lapointe is closed and the one at the Bibliothèque de Saint-Pierre has been downsized. The library remains open with its regular opening hours. The Parc Kirkland soccer field is accessible only via rue des Érables; the driveway behind the arena (near the CPE Les Petits Pierrots) leading to Parc Kirkland is closed as well.

Noise, dust and vibration

The use of tools and equipment may cause dust, noise and vibration, despite all measures taken to keep them to a minimum.

Work schedule

Work crews will be on site Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Arrondissement de Lachine thanks you for your cooperation during these renovations.
