Social cohabitation and homelessness in Pierrefonds-Roxboro
Are you experiencing tension or concerns about someone in your neighborhood who is facing difficulties, and would you like to improve the situation?
Resources are available to support or assist them in their efforts.
This article provides information to residents and business owners in the borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro who interact with people experiencing homelessness or living in precarious situations.
It is important to remember that homelessness is rarely a choice. Some people struggle with mental health or addiction issues, or are simply homeless due to their socioeconomic circumstances.
Tips for improved social cohesion
Initiate and maintain conversation with people on and around our streets, in shops, parks, or other public places: say hello, ask their name, offer them a coffee, take an interest in them. If it is someone you see regularly, remember to greet them by name. If you ever witness an incident, the relationship will be positive because you will already have established a dialogue.
Are you a business owner ?
If the situation allows, establish verbal or written agreements with people who are willing and able to accept certain conditions (hours, cleanliness, etc.) that allow them to frequent your business. Consider exchanging services, such as cleaning the area around the business or shoveling snow from the entrances, in exchange for a drink or a meal.
Ask the neighborhood cohabitation team to support you in establishing regular, supervised collaboration.
