If your belongings were stored following an eviction by a bailiff and you wish to recover them, you have a delay from the eviction date to claim them. Learn more about what you need to do.

The Éco-quartier, called Société environnementale de Côte-des-Neiges (SOCENV), is mandated by your borough to transport and store your belongings.

Please contact the organization directly to schedule an appointment to recover your belongings. You have 60 days from the date of eviction to recover your stored belongings.

Arrange to bring a moving truck, as all of your belongings must be recovered at one and the same time.

There is no charge for storing goods.

Stored goods that are not collected in time will be sorted and then recycled through the appropriate channels, redistributed to residents in need or discarded as a last resort. This is part of the SOCENV’s Eco-Humanitarian Management of Eviction-Related Materials program.

Getting your belongings back

If you accepted the borough’s offer of free storage, you have 60 days from the eviction date to retrieve your belongings. There is no charge for storing goods.

You must contact your borough to schedule an appointment to recover your stored belongings.

You must: 

  • Make the appointment at least 48 business hours before the date you want to collect your goods.
  • Pick up your belongings Monday to Thursday, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
  • Plan on coming with a moving truck, as all of your belongings need to be removed at once.

Stored goods will be destroyed if not collected.

The borough assumes no responsibility for goods that may be damaged during the transportation and storage service.

Attention:

  • Only the person whose name is on the official eviction documents can recover belongings.
  • A person who leaves their belongings at the dwelling of the evicted person must ask the latter to recover their belongings.

Filing a claim

The borough is not responsible for any damage to property. If you consider that your belongings have been damaged, contact Go Cube. You can also file a claim with the Ville de Montréal, according to the usual procedure. The claimant must prove the damage.

Fees 

The tenant evicted from the dwelling in which he resides or the owner evicted from his building or from a business or industry within his building will have to pay the actual costs related to the management, pick-up, transportation, storage and recovery of his goods.

Additional information

Storage of an evicted tenant’s goods

The creditor (the landlord) sends the evicted person a “Notice of Execution” by bailiff at least five days before the eviction date, ordering the debtor (the tenant) to remove his furniture or pay the amount owed. After the deadline, the furniture is deemed to be abandoned.

The bailiff may then choose to dispose of them on public property, sell them for the benefit of the creditor, give them to a charity if they cannot be sold or, if they cannot be given away, dispose of them in any other way at his discretion. He is under no obligation to obtain the city’s consent or to inform the city of his choice. In this situation, the city has no means to counteract the bailiff’s decision.
