A long-awaited vision has become a reality. The official inauguration of the Pierrefonds-Roxboro Aquatic Complex took place on September 28, marking a significant milestone for the community ahead of its upcoming public opening.

Inauguration event

September 28, 2026, will be remembered as a milestone for Pierrefonds-Roxboro. Surrounded by Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Borough Mayor Dimitrios Jim Beis, elected officials, architects, designers and project partners, artist Frédéric Laforge, as well as numerous guests and media representatives, dignitaries officially inaugurated the brand-new Pierrefonds-Roxboro Aquatic Complex.

This ceremonial event marks the culmination of a project that the community has been eagerly awaiting for many years and represents an important step toward the upcoming opening of this modern facility to the public.

As the first indoor aquatic complex of its kind and scale in Montreal’s West Island, the facility was designed to meet the needs of families, students, community organizations, seniors, and sport and recreation enthusiasts of all ages.

The complex features a 25-metre, eight-lane swimming pool, 1-metre and 3-metre diving boards, a recreational pool complete with water play features and a waterslide, a steam room, a multifunctional room, and welcoming viewing and service areas. Designed in accordance with universal accessibility principles, it also includes inclusive amenities that allow everyone to fully enjoy aquatic activities.

Located in the heart of the borough’s civic hub, near city hall, the library, the community and cultural centre, and several schools, the complex will enhance the range of recreational, sports, and local services available across the West Island.

Beyond its aquatic facilities, the building stands out for its sustainable and innovative features. Targeting LEED Gold certification, it incorporates a geothermal energy system, energy-efficient design measures, and responsible water management solutions.

Visitors will also be able to discover the public artwork Tous les corps ont quelque chose à dire (Every Body Has Something to Say), created by artist Frédéric Laforge. Integrated into the building’s architecture, the artwork celebrates the diversity of bodies, experiences, and journeys that will bring this new community space to life.

More than just a building, the Pierrefonds-Roxboro Aquatic Complex will become a place for gathering, learning, personal growth, and creating lasting memories for generations of residents.
