A major weather system will affect the Borough from March 10 to 11, bringing up to 30 mm of freezing rain, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures. These conditions may make tra

The City and the borough remain fully mobilized to mitigate the impacts of this weather event. However, due to rapidly changing and sometimes unpredictable conditions, it is not possible to intervene everywhere at once. We encourage all residents to exercise caution, stay vigilant and avoid non‑essential travel whenever possible. Regular operations, including scheduled collections, may also be affected depending on how the situation evolves.

Safety tips

For your safety and the safety of those around you:

  • Prepare a 72‑hour emergency kit with basic essentials (water, food, flashlights, batteries, blankets).
  • Charge your cell phones, power banks, and essential devices before the precipitation begins.
  • Keep at least half a tank of gas in your vehicle or ensure your electric vehicle is adequately charged.
  • Never use a BBQ or propane device indoors — this poses a deadly carbon monoxide risk.
  • Postpone travel if you can.
  • If you must go out, wear ice cleats and walk with caution.
  • Check in on vulnerable neighbours and loved ones.

Our preventive actions across the Borough

The Borough has implemented a continuous intervention plan to limit the impacts of the ice storm on streets, sidewalks and sensitive areas. Our teams are:

  • Inspecting and preparing equipment and maintaining sufficient abrasive supplies
  • Conducting preventive sidewalk sanding
  • Prioritizing sensitive pedestrian areas such as slopes, school zones and institutional sites
  • Deploying salt trucks on the road network
  • Increasing monitoring in high‑risk areas (bridges, overpasses, shaded zones)
  • Adjusting operations in real time based on conditions

All operations are reassessed continuously according to the intensity of the ice, road conditions and operational needs.

How to reach us and when to call

Our teams are circulating throughout the borough to respond to the most urgent situations, following a priority system by sector.

Branches weighed down by ice or small broken branches are not considered emergencies requiring immediate intervention. Crews are deployed first and foremost to address issues involving trees, buildings and infrastructure on public property.

For a municipal emergency: call 311.

An emergency includes:

  • A major obstruction to traffic
  • An immediate safety hazard
  • Significant risk to public property

For a life‑ or health‑threatening situation: call 911.

Please note

If a tree falls on your private property, a felling (tree removal) permit will be required; however, we ask that you wait until after the storm before submitting your request so crews can remain focused on urgent priorities.

The Borough will inform residents if a special debris collection becomes necessary following the event.
