Requesting a home inspection to prevent sewer back-up

Was your home flooded as a result of heavy rain? Request a home inspection to reduce the risk of additional damage to your property. Alternately, you can also request to be added to the waiting list.

Who can request an inspection?

Below are the cases for which a home inspection can be requested:

  • If you filed a claim with the city following a sewer back-up or flood

  • If you had a sewer back-up or flood in your home

  • If you live in an area that is prone to flooding

Which requests are prioritized?

If you have filed a claim with the city for a sewer back-up or flood, you are automatically listed to have a compliance inspection carried out on your building. You will receive a letter to set an inspection date. The appointment can be taken by phone or by email, as detailed in the letter.

If you do not respond to the invitation, you will receive a reminder letter within two to four weeks following the initial letter. Processing times may be longer if there are too many claims.

Waiting list

If you haven’t filed any claim with the city after a sewer back-up, or if your home is located in an area that is vulnerable to flooding, email us with your address and a short explanation of your request. Waiting times may vary and can be of several months.

Home visit and report

These services are offered as part of the inspection visit:

  • Personalized report summarizing the work required to rectify the situation, more specifically based on the configuration of your property or plumbing.
  • Referral to partners, such as the borough, for authorizations or specific work on built assets, for a garage, outdoor developments or structural work, as well as for subsidies.
  • Second inspection visit to check the compliance of the corrective work completed. The inspector will set the date with you upon receipt of the certificate of conformity to be signed by a contractor licensed by the Corporation des maîtres mécaniciens en tuyauterie du Québec (CMMTQ) and sent by e-mail.
