RelatedUrban Planning Advisory Committees

The commitee usually meets once a month, and applications submitted are reviewed by a professional at the borough.

The Urban Planning Advisory Committee consist of borough residents, some of them with training or expertise in urban planning, urban development, architecture, heritage or simply a good knowledge of the borough. Elected borough official take part in the work carried out by this committee, which are made up of seven official members, including the Chair, and the replacement members.

Functions of the Urban Planning Advisory Committee

The Urban Planning Advisory Committee studies all applications for minor exemptions, comprehensive development programs or any urban planning and architectural integration programs. It then makes recommendations to the Borough Council, which then chooses whether or not to act on them.

The Urban Planning Advisory Committee also studies and approves or rejects all demolition applications for immovables and other buildings, and decides on projects to replace demolished structures. However, any interested person, by filing a letter, may appeal the Committee’s decision before the Borough Council, which can uphold or reverse the decision.

Presence of the public

Any questions concerning the files discussed must be directed to elected officials at Borough Council meetings or during public consultations.

The following documents are reviewed in private:

  • Application for a preliminary opinion;
  • Any draft by-law aimed at adopting, amending or repealing the règlement de zonage, règlement de lotissement, or the règlement sur les plans d’implantation et d’intégration architecturale and the Master Plan;
  • Any draft by-law aimed at the construction or occupation of buildings geared to persons in need of assistance under the terms of section 89, paragraph 4 of the Montréal Charter of Rights and Responsibilities.
