Rehome your pet
Are pets prohibited in your new home? Did your dog react badly when you brought your baby home? Is your partner allergic to your pet? Here’s what to do if you need to rehome your cat or dog in Montréal.
There is a solution for each reason one might give up a pet, whether it is due to the pet’s health, the cost of spaying or neutering, a move, a lack of space or time. If your pet has a behavioural problem, see a veterinarian, who can, if necessary, refer you to a specialist.
Rehome your pet
Ask around to see if anyone you know wants to give your pet a new home.
There are outdoor bulletin boards around Montréal where you can put up posters free of charge. Some groups can also help you rehome your pet.
Take your pet to a shelter
If you cannot find a new home for your pet, bring your pet to the shelter responsible for your borough.
You then have 15 days to cancel your cat or dog license.
